Announcing Magnolia~
a new setting/game, discord updates, bts, and some things I liked this week
Hello Songbirds,
I’m typing this with a hand slightly achey from a gnarly tattooing session yesterday. My original plan was to type all this and do some work yesterday after setting up an appointment, but they had a spot then and there so I took it and spent the rest of the evening with my hand wrapped and sore.
But here we are~
Magnolia
If you follow me on twitter you’ll have seen these images:
All drawn by Charlotte while we sat in a call and I spewed ideas into a gdoc titled “Magnolia Ideas Dump.” The short history of this project is that we were both feeling stilted and uninspired so we decided “fuck it, let’s make a setting.” The very next thought was “let’s make is way too horny for its own good.”
SO it’s not going to be for everyone but it’s going to eventually be a book of cursed, crying knights and princesses with several leashes tethered to their wrists. Simple pitch: King Algernon waged a war to unite the lands for 1,000 years. Seven years ago he succeeded. The kobold empire decimated, their princess on the run, their knights cursed with silence and left to wander. The goddess of flowers married and bearing the children that will rule these lands for ever after. And the seven houses sit patiently, waiting for Algernon to die, waging their cold wars behind his back.
It’s a political setting full of dueling, mythology, and dog kobolds! Get hype for it.
And now for this commercial message
Do you like music? Do you like *ambient* music??? Do you like ambient music that makes you feel like you live in a cozy adventurers town where nearby a dragon slumbers??? Then do I have the perfect rec for you.
Been listening to this in the mornings when doing my wake-up writing. Lovely stuff.
And now back to our originally scheduled programming~
New Discord
Are you part of the Nerves discord? It’s p chill and laid back, but it’s going through a redesign this weekend, so you should join now if you’re not there already.
It was originally set up to be .dungeon theme, but after Songbirds and .dungeon//remastered and Cage and and and, I think it’s time to change it up a bit. The goal behind it? Create a place with its own lore and vibes that are equal to the ttrpgs that I work on. There are going to be 3 roles that you get to choose from, a simplified series of rooms, and a new bot that char and I have been working on. We’re calling it The Princess and she can do a tarot read (if you ask her correctly) and acts as a bit of a Magic 8-Ball if you ask her questions. We’ll eventually get her to roll dice and things like that, but these things take time.
So join today (or tomorrow >.> I’m slow when it comes to messing with discord stuff).
The 200,000 Word Writing Challenge
Last year, a campaign I was running fell apart due to my catastrophic move from Illinois to Ohio, but ever since then the players of that game have been poking and prodding me to run another campaign. A few days ago I finally gave in and started writing a little campaign pitch doc to send them. The act of writing anything that wasn’t a bullet point list of the most boring caliber was like pulling teeth, which!!! Is not fun for me as someone who likes to write.
But it’s been a minute. The machine is rusty and needs to be cleaned, turned on, and cranked up for a while to get back to regular working speed. So I’ve created a self-imposed writing challenge for myself.
As the document says, I want to write 200,000 words by the end of this year. Which, to put that into perspective is a little over 500 words a day (if you started January 1st). So, it’s maybe not has wild as it sounds. I used to write 2k words a day, but this seems like a much more attainable goal to work me back up to speed.
And that’s the only goal! I don’t want it to make sense. It’s very much prose poetry, automatic writing, things of that nature. Just pure unfiltered ideas, thoughts, word associations.
It’s exciting and I won’t be sharing all of it, at least not until the end of the year. But I will post little snippets as I like to do.
The End
See you next time, Songbird~
Magnolias sounds wonderfully bitter, the dog and kink theme sure has my foot in the door on this one. My wereborzoi from My Body is a Cage has some universe hopping to do.
