Good morning,
It’s friday, January 10th, and .dungeon has just gone live on Kickstarter. What you just watched is the launch video. What you’re reading now is the newsletter announcement.
My Kickstarter ritual has always been to launch the thing and then avoid the internet for the rest of the day. The anxiety and everything is just too much. It’s easier to take the day off, do some chores, and relax with loved ones.
This project is special to me because .dungeon started my career. It was my first “success” within the industry. It’s been written about on Polygon. It’s won at least one award. And two years ago, it continued my career during what would become the worst year of my life.
.dungeon is something that has loved me even when I haven’t loved it, and this Kickstarter is my attempt at rectifying that. This book is affordable and full of everything you’ll need to not only begin a game, but keep playing until you reach the game over screen.
The biggest addition is the Oracle system for solo/GM-less play, which is something I toyed with way back in 2020 but I don’t think I ever succeeded with. This version is much more akin to the oracle tools found in other wonderful solo/GM-less games, with an easy way to answer yes/no questions and prompts for more open-ended questions. But it also comes with a new hex-flower idea for generating random quests while exploring.
So now .dungeon has random dungeon generators, random hex fills, a quest generator, oracle tools, and everything else that everyone has enjoyed about it before.
The other big thing I’m hyped for is that Charlotte, my good friend and collaborator, is illustrating the entire book. He’s been messaging me non-stop about all the ridiculousl, off-the-wall ideas he’s had. One of them being that he’s going to illustrate it with a Nintendo 3DS. Which…like??? Give this man a medal because his ingenuity and commitment to aesthetic is beyond that of anything I’ve seen in the TTRPG scene.
I hope you’re all having a lovely day and will have lovely weekends. Here’s the kickstarter link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/s-o-c/dungeon-a-dying-mmo-fantasy-roleplaying-game
I’ll be annoying about this project for the rest of the month, sharing sneak peeks, posting tiktoks, and trying to figure out how to market after all these years. But for the rest of the day, I will be annoying my cat to make up for all the hours he’s annoyed me while I’ve been working on this project.
With love,
Snow~
